Christmas Patterns are here! Santa Grogu, Pikachu Elf and Vintage Angel ornaments!
Handcrafted items with heirloom quality.
One of kind crocheted creations.
Individual & small group lessons.
My friends call me Jo and I am passionate about working with yarn. I was fourteen years old when I began crocheting…over 40 years ago! My cousin, Reba, taught me the basics and I channeled all my teen-ridden angst into my first afghan…and it sure looked that way with all it’s gnarls, bumps and uneven edges! Crochet became an outlet for me…a metaphor about how to handle life. When life throws me a curve ball, I pick up a loop and pull through, literally and figuratively. The movement of the hook calms my spirit and brings me peace in times of strife and uncertainty. Reba passed away a long time ago, but I still cherish the creative door she opened to me all those years ago. I have carried on her teaching and passed the gift on to my daughter and granddaughter and all those who mention having a desire to learn.
Crocheting is an artistic endeavor and highly personal. It takes time and demands communication and collaboration to achieve a satisfactory result. The items you see here serve as examples to help you generate ideas about project patterns and colors and what I have in surplus. The composition of the end-product is most important; so, each item is created on demand, fresh and new with high-quality materials. If you want something not shown here, please email me. I can most likely make it for you from either a picture or pattern.
If you see something you like, supply the needed information regarding color, size, gender, etc. Then, simply follow the prompts to purchase. Credit/Debit cards are accepted and, rest assured, By the Stitch does NOT retain any of your banking information. PayPal is also offered for your convenience. If you have any questions or concerns, you can always email me at bythestitch35@yahoo.com using the contact form below.
Depending on the speed of mail service, small items like bookmarks, hot pads, barefoot sandals, etc have the quickest turn-around, usually 10-14 days. Lapghans take longer to handcraft (2-4 weeks) and the larger blankets can take up to 1-3 months to complete depending on the pattern. So, if you're wanting a blanket for Christmas, it's best to order it in August or September. I complete the projects in the order that I receive them.

Can you crochet a pattern that is not represented on the website?
Yes, most of the time. I need a pattern name or picture of the desired creation. The F-Bomb under the Miscellaneous Category was created for a customer who sent me a picture. In this situation, you would not purchase anything from the website but email me at bythestitch35@yahoo.com to discuss the project and cost.
Are the dimensions of the projects exact?
Yes, for the majority of items. Sometimes, the size of lapghans and blankets might vary slightly (1-2 inches) depending on yarn weight, pattern, and hook size, which all play a part in the final dimensions of any project.
Do you take returns?
All sales are final unless the item is lost or damaged during shipment. For that reason, measure twice (especially for clothing) before finalizing your order.
Do you give refunds for missed classes?
Much effort and time are put into preparing students' materials to create a positive class experience. I understand life happens and prevents us from our commitments. So, participants may contact BTS and reschedule one time for any reason. If participants miss a second time, all monies are refunded minus the transaction fees plus a $25 materials fee following the second missed appointment.
No-shows or repeated cancellations prevent other prospective customers from taking advantage of those same days/times. Therefore, no-shows (those who do not contact BTS about their absence beforehand) will forfeit their class fee.
On occasion, a class may be rescheduled due to inclement weather. Attendees may request a refund minus bank transfer fees if they cannot attend the rescheduled class.
What payment options are available?
By the Stitch accepts all major credit/debit cards through GooglePay, PayPal, and Square. BTS DOES NOT retain any of your private information.
Do you repair damaged crocheted items?
I take repair jobs on a case-by-case basis. It depends on the extent of the damage. The cost of the supplies is added to the fee schedule below to repair your item.
Up to 5 hrs: $50
5.1 - 10 hrs: $100
10.1 - 15 hrs: $150
15.1 - 20 hrs: $200
20.1 - 25 hrs: $250
Can you crochet clothing?
I crochet clothing such as tunics, vests, beanies, scarves, gloves, baby sweaters, and booties where pattern sizing is standardized.
What do you feel you do best?
TEACHING! While I derive great satisfaction from handcrafting various items, I receive the most joy from passing on my knowledge to others and watching them achieve and excel.
Can I hire you to help me with a specific troublesome pattern?
Absolutely! Two hooks are better than one, I say! I offer individual assistance with any issue you might have in a Hook to Hook private session regarding topics not already covered in a prepared class.
Can I customize a product to my favorite colors or fiber content?
You can customize most of the products for sale to your favorite color(s) and fiber content. For example, those who are allergic to animal fibers may choose to have a product made with 100% acrylic or cotton yarn instead of wool. In most cases, that can be done. Please email me with any questions or concerns regarding this issue. Color customization depends on the color choices that are available for purchase at the time.
